DIRA Mentorship | Student Spotlight | Fall 2026

At DIRA Mentorship Program, we believe preparing young people for life after high school goes beyond academic achievement. It also means helping them develop confidence, discover their strengths, and acquire practical skills that will prepare them for opportunities ahead.

As part of our Fall 2026 mentorship program, we are working alongside students to help them develop their first professional résumés, build LinkedIn profiles, and create personal portfolios that reflect their skills, experiences, interests, and aspirations.

Recently, our students participated in a professional photography project, giving them an opportunity to receive professional headshots as they begin building their professional identities.

For many young people, creating a résumé, establishing a professional online presence, or knowing how to present their experiences and abilities can feel unfamiliar. These are important skills that are not always taught in the classroom, yet they can make a meaningful difference as students pursue educational, career, and professional opportunities.

More Than Just a Photograph

A professional photograph may seem like a small thing, but for our students, it represents another step in a much bigger journey.

Throughout our mentorship program, we are helping students develop personal and professional portfolios that tell their stories: who they are, what they have accomplished, what they are passionate about, and where they hope to go.

This includes helping students:

  • Build professional résumés that highlight their education, skills, volunteer experiences, achievements, and potential.

  • Develop LinkedIn profiles to begin establishing their professional presence and learning how to connect with opportunities.

  • Create personal portfolios that document their accomplishments, experiences, interests, and professional growth.

  • Explore college and career pathways that align with their strengths, interests, and long-term goals.

  • Develop confidence and professional skills to communicate their abilities, present themselves effectively, and prepare for future opportunities.

The professional photography project complements these efforts by providing students with a quality headshot they can use on LinkedIn, in professional portfolios, and for other appropriate opportunities.

Our goal is not simply to tell students what they need to do. We want to walk alongside them, provide practical tools, and help them take meaningful steps toward their future.

Building a Portfolio, Shaping a Journey

Every young person has a story worth telling, even when they are just beginning their educational or professional journey.

We want our students to recognize that their experiences matter. Whether through school activities, community involvement, volunteering, leadership, personal accomplishments, or skills they are developing, each experience contributes to their growth.

By helping students document these experiences, we are encouraging them to see their potential, take ownership of their journey, and begin building a portfolio they can continue developing long after completing the DIRA program.

This is especially meaningful for young people who may not have access to professional networks, career guidance, or individuals who can help them navigate these important milestones.

Preparing for What's Next

DIRA's 16-week mentorship program combines academic preparation, college and career exploration, financial literacy, practical life skills, and individualized coaching.

We believe mentorship should lead to more than conversations. It should equip young people with knowledge, confidence, relationships, and tangible resources they can use in real life.

Projects like our professional photography experience bring that philosophy to life.

We extend our appreciation to Zimagery for helping us capture this important milestone for our Fall 2026 cohort.

As our students continue developing their résumés, LinkedIn profiles, and personal portfolios, we look forward to celebrating their progress and sharing more of the experiences that shape their journey.

At DIRA, we don't choose a young person's destination. We help them discover their direction and prepare for the journey ahead.

Prepared for what's next. Ready for life.
